Things that stop you from losing weight
Weight loss can be challenging if you don’t have the support of the people around you. I am pretty active on social media, and I’m in many keto groups. I keep seeing the same things being said quite often, which got me thinking about my own experiences of weight loss and how I could not lose weight because I didn’t have the support of friends and family. Here is what we have found are the things that stop you from losing weight
1. I love you just the way you are
This is one of the biggest things that stop you from losing weight, “I love you just the way you are” is usually said by the partners of the person trying to lose weight, sometimes the person saying it is genuine and does love them the way they are but are supportive of their weight loss, but often it’s due to insecurities.
It’s like they think, oh no, my girlfriend will lose weight, and she’s going to look fantastic and run off with the next available man that comes along! Like it couldn’t possibly be because she wants to get fit and healthy.
I was in a relationship like that myself. He would constantly bring home junk food as he knew I just couldn’t say no. If I asked him to pick me up a chocolate bar, he would buy me a whole box. If I asked him to get me a diet coke, he would get me full sugar coke and fresh cream cakes and all the other addictive junk food that I would consume.
Dieting was never going to happen while I was in that relationship, as he was constantly sabotaging all of my efforts (because of his insecurities). Every Monday, I would start a diet, and by Wednesday, I was back to binging on junk food.
2. The jealous friend
I’ve certainly experienced “The jealous friend” before, socialise and it is one of the top things that stop you from losing weight, especially if you have a friend with who you socialize pretty often. They will try to make you quit your new way of eating by saying things like; oh go on, you deserve a treat! or they try to make you feel guilty by saying; if you’re not having dessert, I’m not having dessert. This is because your new way of eating no longer supports their bad eating habits.
My all-time favourite is you look amazing. You don’t need to lose weight. Even though that same friend has seen the struggles of finding an outfit for a night out, people without weight issues have no idea how small the plus-size section is and how limited the style is, making it impossible to find nice clothes.
3. You have changed
“You have changed” you’re not as happy or as bubbly as you used to be, classic sabotage technique. You’re not as bubbly and overly happy because you don’t need to be. People with weight issues tend to be the life and soul of the party, and part of this is to take the emphasis off their weight and how unhappy they are inside, so they create this big bubbly persona.
I used to be the first to take the mickey out of myself or put myself down because I was so big I don’t know. It’s like you have to prove yourself to be a happy go lucky person because secretly, you are miserable as sin on the inside. These negative comments are one of the things that can stop you from losing weight.
4. You look ill. You need to stop dieting
I’ve lost count of the number of times I heard the words “you look ill. You need to stop dieting” this is not because you look ill! The person is so used to seeing you with a fuller, fatter face and body that it seems odd to them when you start losing weight.
If you had been slim to start and then gained weight, they would say, oh, you’ve gained weight. You need to go on a diet, it’s just the perspective of how they are used to seeing you look, and once they get used to the new you, they will stop saying you look ill.
5. Your new diet is not healthy
“Your new diet is not healthy” what’s not healthy about feeding your body with healthy, nutritious non processed food, cutting out unhealthy toxic junk food, gut destroying grains and highly addictive sugar? Why is it we have been brainwashed into thinking the body needs carbohydrates?
There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate, there are essential vitamins and minerals etc., but there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.
Our bodies have evolved to get all of our nutritional needs from the food we eat. If we eat a high carbohydrate, high sugar, high grain, processed food diet, we will never get the essential vitamins and minerals that our bodies need to build a healthy gut, a strong immune system, and healthy eating habits.
